Pixel art games SUCK

Posted by AlexHeaton Jan. 29, 2009 @ 7:52 PM EST

Now, hopefully the title did it's job and drew in an angry mob of pixel-art lovers... awesome :)

I love the style, the 3 games highlighted by Tom the other day are all brilliant and get me excited about it all over again. So much so that I will be picking up development of an old pixel-style game (about a 9 year old drug pusher...) and thinking up some more.

If anyone would be interested on working on somthing with me in the next month or two, (creating art and/or code) put yourselves down the comments.

Cmon, don't be shy :)

I'd like to try some tycoon / sim type games, there aren't enough good ones around and I love to play them.

After the first sentence, I considered not reading the rest of your post but decided to go ahead and do it.

The three pixel games Tom mentioned are pretty nicely done--well, with the exception of Duck Sim 2008, but that one was worthy of some laughs. The others have a certain tranquil flair to them that's almost inspiring, and it probably wouldn't have been the same without pixels.

Of course games like Aether do a great game with the unusual tranquil mood without pixel art, but I didn't really understand that one, heh.

I apologise for the trickery. A post along the lines of 'Pixel Artists wanted' wouldn't have got any people who liked the genre in here and reading :)

They both have a chilled vibe, but for me the appeal of pixel art goes beyond that.
